Ravi to get cabinet post

Final agreement has been reached to give a cabinet portfolio to UNP Assistant Leader and Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanayake.

MP Karunanayake has informed the party’s politburo that President Maithripala Sirisena conveyed to him that the latter had no opposition in granting a cabinet position to him, party sources said.

MP Karunanayake informed of the President’s message when the UNP politburo met with its leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presiding at the Public Administration Ministry on Wednesday (5).

Among those present were Plantations Minister Naveen Dissanayake, General Secretary of UNP Education Minister Akila Wiraj Kariyawasam, Law and Order Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Party Chairman Highways Minister Kabir Hashim, Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Development Minister Harin Fernando, State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardene, Public Administration State Minister JC Alawathuwala and Power and Renewable Energy State Minister Ajith P Perera, party sources said.

MP Karunanayake told the Politburo that the President had informed of his willingness to give him a cabinet position when the President arrived at Parliament on Wednesday.

Department of Attorney General is scheduled to submit a report on charges and allegations against MP Karunanayake to Prime Minister next week in response to a query made by the PM, party sources said.
