Sri Lankan Government and Political Leadership Express Condolence and Support to Pakistan in Wake of School Attack

The Government of Sri Lanka has strongly condemned the attack on Army Public School Peshawar on the 16th December 2014 which resulted in the loss of precious lives.

In this connection, Minister of External Affairs of Sri Lanka, visited the High Commission of Pakistan to express his sorrow and grief over the tragic incidence.

In his discussion with the High Commissioner HE Maj. Gen. (R) Qasim Qureshi,  Prof. G.L. Pieris said that Sri Lanka which has suffered immensely under the scourge of terrorism for almost three decades, share the pain and anguish of the people of Pakistan at this time of unspeakable grief. He expressed the hope that the resilience of the Government and people of Pakistan would undoubtedly strengthen their resolve to annihilate terrorism in that country. He also registered his message in the condolence book.

Minister for Justice Mr. Rauf Hakeem, Senior Minister for Urban Development AHM Fowzie and Opposition Leader Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe also visited the High Commission of Pakistan, to endorse their feelings in the condolence book.

The diplomatic community based in Sri Lanka also strongly denounced the killing of innocent children in the cowardly terror attack on Army Public School, Peshawar, and expressed grief and sorrow to the families of children, school staff members and soldiers who died in this brutal attack.

The Ambassadors, High Commissioners of several countries visited the High Commission of Pakistan in Sri Lanka to express their condolences and support for the efforts of the Pakistani authorities aimed at eradicating the menace of terrorism.

In a separate development Hon. President HE Mahinda Rajapaksa telephoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and expressed his condolences to the families of those who were killed in the Peshawar school terrorist attack.

A candle light vigil will also be held in Colombo, today evening, to remember all those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Peshawar.
