Kaduwela Magistrate puts Chillie in the remand

Kaduwela Magistrate and Additional District Judge Dhammika Hemapala today ordered actor and singer Thivanka Vidusha alias Chillie suspected of assaulting and injuring a 57-year-old man be remanded till October 25.The singer who had been absconding since incident on Friday surrendered to the Thalangama Police this morning through a lawyer.
Victim A. W. Sirilal, a father of two is a daily paid private bus conductor on the 171 route and he was the sole breadwinner of the family. He was walking on a byroad near Vijithapura at Pelawatte,
Battaramulla when Chilie had arrived in a car and asked for space to move forward. There was a heavy traffic congestion at the place as large number of vehicles that transported people for a religious
ceremony being parked there. When Sirilal had moved away from the road the singer allegedly got out of his vehicle and hit him saying that there was no room for his vehicle to move on.
The middle aged victim is being treated at the Thalangama Hospital. Doctors have administered two stitches to his tongue.
Senior Lawyer Kamal Wijesiri appeared for Chilie when the case was taken up at the Kaduwela Magistrate Court yesterday. A bail application was submitted on behalf of the singer but Thalangama
police told the court that the suspect had been absconding for four days after the incident and there would be public discontent if the suspect was given bail.
After considering the presentations, Additional District Judge Dhammika Hemapala said that a case should be filed under Sections 315 and 316 of the Penal Code and suspect be remanded till October 25.
