Nuwara Eliya High Court Judge Lalith Ekanayake on Friday sentenced to death seven members of the same family who were found guilty of the murder of Periyasami Hariraman (33) a father of three, resident on Kothkodiya plantation, Kandapola in February 2004.
According to the deceased’s wife he was clubbed and stabbed to death.
A dispute over sharing electricity had resulted in the murder, police told the court.
Those sentenced to death are Palaniyandi Mutturaja, Palaniyandi Ariram, Palaniyandi Nilamegam, Palaniyandi Subramaniam, Nilamegan Kamalanathan Nilamegan Balachandrayan and Subramaniam Visneswaran.
They were found guilty of unlawful assembly and causing fatal injuries to Periyasami Hariraman.
The post mortem was conducted by Dr K.K.D.J.S.K. Perera on February 2, 2004.
State Counsel Dakitha Wickramanayake appeared for the prosecution and Attorney-at-law. Nalin Thilaka Herath appeared for the defence.
