GMOA tells SAITM to return money taken from students

July 30, 2016

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) demands from the management of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) to return the money the latter had taken from students promising medical degrees to them in return.

The GMOA claimed that the SAITM had committed a serious financial crime against its students. The SAITM should return the monies it took from students with interest for the years they had wasted seeking a degree.

The GMOA said the continuous backing of some politicians had added to the injustice suffered by students.

GMOA Editor Dr. Nalinda Herath said the SAITM students should be repaid their full fees plus compensated for the years they had wasted.

The students who had qualifications to study in a state university but opted to join the SAITM could commence their education leading to a medical degree in an institute recognized by the Sri Lanka Medical Council. The GMOA would not oppose it, Dr Herath said adding that the expenses of those students should be borne by the SAITM management.
