Rupee steady; exporter dlr sales offset

The Sri Lankan rupee was steady on Friday as dollar sales by foreign investors and exporters were offset by mild demand for the importer greenback, dealers said.The spot rupee ended at 145.50/53 per dollar at 0636 GMT, compared with Thursday’s close of 145.50/52.

Lanka adopts Swiss procedure for unsolicited proposals

The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to include the “Swiss challenge” procedure in the government procurement guidelines to be followed on unsolicited proposals. A Swiss challenge is a form of public procurement which requires an authority which has received an unsolicited bid to publish the bid and invite third parties to match or exceed it.

Cabinet approves purchase of fighter aircraft

Cabinet of Ministers has approved the purchase of new fighter aircraft following a proposal by President Maithripala Sirisena who is also the defense minister, reports said. A JF-17 fighter, jointly developed by China and Pakistan, would cost at least 20 million dollars, and Sri Lanka is reportedly considering this aircraft.
